Pre  Instrumental Classes  (4 – 8 year olds)

Each class is 40 min and has 8 children per class.  The idea of  pre-instrumental music is to introduce children to the rudiments of music, preparing them musically to the stage where they are now ready and confident to pursue an instrument.

Beginners Programmechimes

Composition and Improvisation
Learn to read and clap rhythm patterns with notation (ta te te).
Learn Songs and sing together in rounds.
Play the bells/chimes as an ensemble.
Play in the percussion ensemble.
Musical games
Children take part in the Summer concert.

Programme One

The recorder is introduced at this stage, giving children the pride of playing a solo instrument and playing as an ensemble. A theory book is introduced at this level and children learn the lines and spaces in music and note names and time values, clefs and music dynamics.
Learn songs and sing together in both rounds and harmony.
Play in the percussion ensemble.
Play bells/chimes and boomwhackers.
Children take part in the Summer concert.

Programme Two

The recorder moves to the next stage and children prepare simple pieces for both concerts.
Next level of theory is introduced along with theory book.
Learn songs and sing together in both rounds and harmony.
Play in the percussion ensemble.
Play bells/chimes and boomwhackers.
Children take part in the Summer concert.

Programme Three

Children now play duets and rounds on the recorder and prepare for the Royal Irish Academy of Music Grade exam.
Next level of theory is introduced along with theory book.
